Put on your oxygen mask first before helping others
It is instinctive to want to reach out and help others. We are given this advice because if you have not made sure you have taken care of yourself you may not make it to take of others, be it clients, patients or loved ones.
We are all guilty of this, some more than others.
This is so true in the caring and healing professions, be it Reiki, energy workers, holistic therapists, counsellors, nurses or carers.
As a Reiki Healer myself, ('what is Reiki?' click on www.cotswoldretreat.co.uk ), I see this often with other healers and carers. We give and give to help others and forget this is a two way street. We forget to give to ourselves. In the process our own energy becomes depleted; if we continue this way we lose the capacity to help others as well as we can when our energy is high – we forget to put on our own oxygen mask.
We all gain energy from different sources. My oxygen and my energy comes from a number of places:
Sleep, Meditation, TM, Reiki (self healing and reiki shares), being around nature, enjoying friendships, stimulating conversation, pets, hugs, music, love and laughter.
Surrounded by a range of motivating, inspiring and optimistic healers and holistic practitioners, their expertise, positivity and empowering
work and experiences will boost my energy so I have more to give to others.
Please share your experiences and tips. Looking forward to hearing from you!
p.s. Deep breaths :-)
