Reiki Healing for Pets & Other Animals
Welcome Animal Lovers!
Having just prepared the topic for my blog on reiki healing for animals, I realised there was more to be said than just in a blog post. This prompted me to create this page as an extended version.
It will be updated with case studies. I look forward to hearing from animal lovers, those interested in learning about reiki healing for their animals as well as those involved in animal welfare organisations, animal shelters, rescue homes etc.
If you have a case study or a fund-raising event then please contact me.
How Reiki Healing Benefits Animals
Healing animals with Reiki or other energy healing is so rewarding. In the UK we are known as a nation of pet lovers, they are part of the family. This is also true in many other countries and it has been wonderful to read up about the many animal healers worldwide.
If you can give your pet healing it not only helps them feel better, it increases the bond between you both. Reiki will never harm your pet or any animal; it is always for the greatest and highest good and is a fantastic way to keep animals healthy and at ease with themselves, others and their surroundings.
As Animals are more in tune with and sensitive to energy they are generally more receptive to receiving universal life force energy.
They do not see it as medicine; there is no placebo effect; often results are seen quickly. Having said that, there will always be sceptics!
Animals are much more open to receiving healing energy that comes from unconditional love because they have not the pre-conditioning we have which often creates a resistance to receiving. This enables them to accept it and soak it up so much quicker. Depending on the size of the animal, be it hamster or horse, healing may only be required for as little as 2-20 minutes.
Healing other people's pets & animals
As animals can't talk to us like humans, we need to be aware of any changes, however subtle they may be, for example in their behaviour, their response to us or their general demeanour .
They may appear quieter, not interested in food, lethargic, less playful, even agitated. If you are treating another's pet you need to check this with them.
Remember, like people, all animals are different, with their own unique personalities and so may respond differently to receiving healing, while many may love receiving healing, others may be wary.
Respect the animal's space!
If an animal responds by screeching, biting, flying away, grumbling, hissing, growling or running away, try distance healing.
It may be instinctive as a healer to want to reach out straight away however it is important to remember that we still need their permission and to respect them as you would healing a human patient/client.
Remember animals are territorial and have tactile and territorial scent awareness. They will be sensitive to vibrations you give off, whether you are relaxed or perhaps nervous or distressed.
NEVER FORCE HEALING directly on an animal. Instead approach it gently, slowly, avoiding eye contact and start healing from a distance. Only move to hands-on if and when the animal is more receptive.
With hands-on you may wish to start by laying on hands at the base of the ears, near the neck; animals tend to become much calmer with this position. With small animals (mice, hamsters, guinea pigs, birds) you may gently cup your hands around them.
There are many success stories of horses being healed with Reiki healing. Based in Gloucestershire is Safayer Salter. Her love of horses led her to study the work of many renowned international horsemen. She aims to bring horses and people together in harmony and a deeper mutual joy and understanding.
Feral and aggressive animals: These can benefit enormously from distant healing. It is critical not to appear controlling or a threat and to remain at a respectful distance.
Animal Sanctuaries,Shelters & Rescue Centres
Are you already a healer? If yes, then I would encourage, even urge you to use your ability and offer healing at a local animal shelter or similar practice. Remember many of these survive on donations and run as not-for-profit, charities or just by passionate caring individuals with limited funds.
There is always a shelter nearby. To find one near you click here. My nearest is the Blue Cross in Burford, Oxfordshire, where I have previously adopted pets.
Other well known organisations include RSPCA, UK cat rescue, Dogs Trust, Battersea dogs and cats home to name a few.
Healing is so beneficial to animals here as many have been mis-handled, badly treated, abused, abandoned or grieving after the death of a loved one. Such trauma may leave them frightened, anxious, fearful, agitated, sick and very wary of humans..
Calling all Healers!
If you are a healer there are many ways you can help:
volunteer at animal shelters, sanctuaries, riding stables and animal rescue centres. Offer demonstrations of healing animals, at pet stores, rescue centres, children's and school pet clubs and even veterinary practices.
